Hoppy is ready for adoption..

Hoppy is now up for adoption through Oregon Dog Rescue..She has recovered so well from her amputation and is about half way through her spay recovery.

She is one of the happiest, sweetest girls we have ever fostered-she tries so hard to do everything you ask of her and she just LOVES to play with toys, other dogs, people-she's just got the ultimate "lab" personality.

Hoppy is potty trained, plays well with everyone, rides well in the car, entertains herself very well and will no-doubt make someone so very happy. We love her very much and will miss her very very much, but know that we can only keep fostering if we let her find her forever home.

Recovery #2!

Yesterday miss Hoppy got her staples removed from her amputation!! Woohoo! 17 days with staples in could not have felt very good..On Sunday night I let her sleep without the cone (ok, so she broke it and chewed on it before that), but, she was sooo happy and chewing on the 20 toys that we've given her over the weeks.

Before dropping her at the vet yesterday I stopped at Lexidog to pick up another dog and let Hoppy into daycare for a few minutes...I really should have had my video camera--the wiggles amplified around all of the other dogs!! She was so so cute and i cannot wait to see her play again!

She got spayed yesterday and will have staples for another 12 days..In the end that is about 1 month spent confined and with a cone on..That is a long time for a now almost 7 month old puppy. I know her life is better now than it was prior to her coming to Oregon, but she really does deserve an amazing life. She is such a trooper and we just love her.

Castor n Pollux pet food is having a contest for cute dogs on facebook. I posted a photo of 2 of my girls and hope it will get enough "likes" of the photo to win Hoppy some dog food/toys and treats! She deserves so much!

17 days later..

Hoppy got her staples out today! Her leg is good as new-and she has been testing that theory quite a bit lately doing sprint laps around the back yard:) She still hesitates on slick services or going UP stairs, but anything else is no-big deal!

The other snobby dogs all think she is some creature other than a dog with her wild wiggle, pig noises when she gets excited, cone sticking straight up off her head and her endless amounts of enthusiasm for anything and everyone!!

She had her spay surgery today and by the 1st week of August she should be looking for her forever person:)...More pictures tomorrow...we just have to have video of her happy dances:)

Hoppy would like a new name..

Hoppy is doing SO well...and even though 'Hoppy' fits her, we just don't like it...We're taking suggestions! So far we have Trinity as a suggestion..

I am so happy that many people have been contributing to the "Hoppy Fund" at www.oregondogrescue.org Hoppy is sending out some thank you's today and is scheduled for her spay surgery next Monday--she's a busy girl:)

Last night my roommate taught her how to maneuver our 1 step down to the backyard and today she is going in/out like a pro..She's so great!

Running!

Hoppy has certainly gotten her puppy energy back today! She took her 1st curb-willingly-and RAN around the back yard! We're only letting her out in about 5-10 minute increments a few times a day, but she is so happy when we free her from the cone!

Her incision is still healing so she has to wear her cone and can't reach her kongs or bones so we're keeping her sedated as much as we can. I swear her tail has not stopped since she arrived last Monday! We have to hold her tail still to even get a look at her leg.

She is going to be such a fun puppy when she is given the medical clearances to be a normal dog. She really has no idea she is different-she even tried to get my bunnies to play with her today!

Hoppy day #8..

Hoppy is one week and a day out of surgery and you would think she had never had surgery! She REALLY wants to be out with the other dogs and play in the backyard..Today she was sans cone for less than 10 minutes and pulled out some more stitches..Keeping a 6 month old puppy down is a challenge:)

She's still wagging and loves to be petted. We are not looking forward to her spay surgery next week...Poor conehead. I can't wait until we can take her out to meet people-she is an awesome example of a tri-pod and a rescue!!

Hoppy-Poppy: whatever you call her...shes HAPPY!

Hoppy is a 6 month old yellow lab pup who was born with a birth defect. Her left rear leg was curled up next to her and was un-useable and unfixable. Her "breeders" took her to a high kill shelter in California to be euthanized...A wonderful transporter pulled miss Hoppy and drove her to Oregon where Oregon Dog Rescue would take her in.

One week ago today Hoppy had her leg amputated and began what will no doubt be a long process!..Hoppy came to stay with me 3 days after her surgery. She had gotten her pain patch removed that morning and had a drain put in..Poor thing looked miserable and all of my dogs were terrified of the cone head with 3 legs.

On Day #4 Hoppy thought it would be fun to pull her drain out in the night..The morning of day 5 was spent getting Hoppy to the vet..She had an infection and was put on more antibiotics and given a larger cone. The good news-the drain was gone! The bad news--the hole from the drain remained to allow for infection to come out....(yuck!)

We are now on Day #7 and Hoppy is feeling better. Her leg is not swollen or red and her eyes are much brighter. Throughout everything she has never stopped wagging her tail-she is one of the happiest puppies ever. She is getting to spend more 5 minute times out in the back yard and has been an excellent reliever..No accidents at all and sleeps quietly through the night! She has decided that hotdogs have pills in them, so we have moved onto deli meat..She likes her stuffed kongs and nylabones, but can't get to them unless i am sitting with her because that darn cone is too big! :)

Poppy will recover here for another week as well as meet a potential adopter we have sought out for her :) When she's a little more steady on her feet and off from medication she will go in for her spay surgery. Poor girl is going to have alot of cone time in her future..
